What WordPress Image Size Should I Use?

Image size or image dimensions is its width and height. It is measured in pixels. The more pixels an image has, the bigger is its file size. Image file size is the space on your computer occupied by image file. It is measured in bytes.

If the images are large in file size, they can slow down your website speed. So, it’s crucial to have image file size as small as possible, while image dimensions are as required.

In blog posts image size depends on the WordPress theme. In most cases you will need:

  • 1200×675 for single column layout;
  • 680×382 for two-column layout;
  • 300×300 for square images layout.

Featured images or thumbnails are also determined by your WordPress theme:

  • 1200×687 for rectangular featured images;
  • 600×600 for square featured images.

It’s better to use larger images here, so they will look good on wider screens.
